Fans or Likes? 3 Tips to Build your Facebook Business Fans

Are they “fans” or “likes”?

With the recent change in Facebook, many people are confused about what to call Facebook business page fans. Facebook changed the way people are described when they click to become associated and participate in a Facebook page. They now count these users as the number of “People Who Like This Page.” The “liking” part makes more sense because of how Facebook users already interact, share and communicate. A huge reason for the change is Facebook wants to empower websites with “like” buttons to push more and more interactions back to Facebook.

Bottom line: Even though they click “like”, these people are still fans. So, a major goal for your business Facebook page is to continue to increase the number of fans.

Below are 3 tips to increase your fan base:

  1. Post a link or button on your website to your Facebook page.
  2. Create a Facebook Landing page to capture attention when someone first comes to your page. (Instead of seeing your Wall, the visitor will see a custom-designed page with information, images and an incentive/reason to “Like” the page.)
  3. Use Facebook ads to increase fan base. (Tip: Use the social feature to target friends of your current fans!)
